Geneva, Switzerland – A group of Okinawans and Hawaiians will be speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council 45th session from 14 September through 06 October 2020. Among the confirmed speakers are Peace For Okinawa Coalition president Robert Kajiwara, H.E. Leon Siu, and Routh Bolomet. They will be joined by various guest speakers. The presentations will be done virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with videos made available to the public via YouTube and social media. More details will be released shortly.
Robert Kajiwara, Ph.D. A.B.D., is founder and president of the Peace For Okinawa Coalition. His petition to stop the construction of the military base at Henoko, Okinawa has over 212,000 signatures. Kajiwara previously spoke at the United Nations Human Rights Council in July 2019.
H.E. Leon Siu is Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hawaiian Kingdom, as well as co-director of the Koani Foundation. He has been a regular presence at the United Nations for over a decade, and was previously nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize due to his work on the West Papua independence issue.
